does your wood fence need to be repaired or replaced altogether?

Determining whether a wood fence needs repair or replacement depends on its condition, age, and the extent of the damage. Here are some signs that your fence may need to be replaced rather than repaired:

  1. Structural damage: If your fence is leaning, sagging, or has significant damage to its posts, rails, or panels, it may need to be replaced. These issues can compromise the integrity of the fence and make it unsafe.
  2. Extensive rot: If your fence posts, rails, or panels are significantly rotting, it's likely that your fence needs a replacement. Rotted wood can weaken the fence's structure and make it more susceptible to damage from weather or animals.
  3. Warping or twisting: If your fence has warped or twisted over time, it's time to replace it. Warping can make the fence look uneven and unattractive and can also affect its structural integrity.
  4. Age: If your fence is more than 15 to 20 years old, it may be time to consider replacing it. Even if it's still structurally sound, the wood may have deteriorated significantly, making it less attractive and more prone to damage, especially in the drastically changing weather conditions we see in Guelph.
  5. Cost of repairs: If the cost of repairing the fence is close to or exceeds the cost of replacing it, it may be more cost-effective to replace the fence. In addition, a new fence will likely have a longer lifespan and require less maintenance than an older fence.

If your wooden fence is showing at least one of the signs listed, it may be time for a fence replacement.  For a professional Guelph fence installation, give us a call at Guelph Fence to discuss options that will suit your budget and needs.
